2-Week Backpacking Packing List
Everything you need for 14 days of travel—without packing 14 days of clothes. Use the interactive list, plan for laundry and adjust it to your destination.
What do you really need for 2 weeks of backpacking?
Pack roughly 5–7 days of versatile clothing and plan to do laundry once or twice. Start with essentials, then adapt for climate, accommodation and activities. This list is for hostel, city and multi-stop travel—not unsupported wilderness trekking, which requires specialist shelter, navigation and safety gear.

Pack smarter, not heavier
Choose fabrics that dry easily
Quick-drying layers give you more flexibility when washing clothes while traveling.
Build outfits around a small color palette
A few pieces that work together are more useful than lots of single-use outfits.
Check airline baggage limits
Backpack capacity alone does not tell you whether it meets your airline’s cabin size and weight requirements.
Plan laundry before you leave
Look for laundry services or accommodation facilities midway through your trip.
Keep arrival essentials accessible
Carry ID, payment methods, medication and an arrival outfit where you can reach them.
Adjust for the destination
Tropical travel, mountain weather, business events and religious sites may all require different clothing or equipment.
Travel backpacking vs wilderness backpacking
This checklist assumes you sleep in hostels, hotels or guesthouses and can resupply during the trip. For remote trekking, bring a purpose-built equipment and safety plan covering shelter, sleeping gear, food, water treatment, navigation and emergency communication.
